The birth of the Foxfire Collection took the form of a freshman student writing project at the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Rabun Gap, GA in 1966. The students interviewed their relatives and family members and documented how life in rural Appalachia had changed over time. Covering topics as diverse as wagon wheel making, hog dressing, and faith healing the Foxfire series stands as an outstanding record of the traditions, skills, and folklore of rural America. This set in its entirety is an important collection of American experiences and wisdom.
